Originated in the setting of the Indian Himalaya's, about 4000-5000 years ago, the practice of Yoga has now spread all over the world. It is based on the control of five sources of energy: breathing, diet, sleeping, relaxation and a positive mental attitude. In essence it is a way to bring the body and mind in full coherence and to facilitate an optimal flow of the life force 'prana' (or chi or ki) through the body.

In the past, if you wanted to learn yoga, you needed to be in India. Nowadays, yoga is taught all over the world and yoga practises can be found anywhere. Over the years, our island has developed a bit of a reputation to be a yoga island. It's been visited by spiritual seekers since yoga became popular in the eighties. The island's surroundings form a perfect stage to practise Yoga and other health related activities. There are a number of well known places on the island where yoga can be learned.
